And the winner is: HSBCAfter working their way through the group stages the two finalists saw off opposition in the quarter and semi finals to reach the last game of the day. The match started off a little nervously with both teams keen not to give anything away. During the mid section the play opened up a little with both teams continually attacking, real end to end stuff. As it drew to full time though there was an eagerness not to concede a late goal with the final result being 0 - 0 leading to penalties. After 160 minutes of football the final would be decided by the single kick of the ball. After the standard 5 penalties the teams were still neck and neck but once into the sudden death arena HSBC emerged the victors. Both teams are to be congratulated on producing such good football on such a warm day. With the first game kicking off at 09:50 and the final not being played until 3:45pm stamina was a must. Congratulations to HSBC for winning the trophy in their first year. Commiserations to Newark for getting so close. |
